Top Ten Beautycounter FAVES!

I’ve shared a bit on here about why I’ve switched to safer beauty (if you want to read more, you can see that post here) but I wanted to hop on here and quickly share my top ten favorite Beautycounter products because the 15% off site-wide sale lasts until tonight ONLY!

Y’all….I don’t mean to be the “negative nancy” sounding the alarm always on your personal care products….but this is important. The federal law governing the cosmetic and personal care industry has not been modified since 1938. Think about all the advancements in technology (and more than 80,000 chemicals that have been introduced) since then!!!!! The US bans 33 ingredients, the EU bans 1200. What are in those 1000+ ingredients banned in the EU not banned in the US that are still lurking in our products?!?! Our cosmetic and personal care product industry is grossly unregulated, leading to chemicals that have known toxic effects (think hormone disruptors, carcinogens, impacts to fertility, etc…) in our products!!!! We put so many effort on fueling our body correctly and using organic foods, etc… but our skin is our largest organ!!! Have you ever thought about what is in your products?!

Friends don’t let friends:

1) Miss out on a good sale (15% off site wide…hey!!)

2) Wear toxic makeup/personal care products ;)

Beautycounter is a safer avenue to purchase skin care and makeup products without the known harmful ingredients in so many conventional products. While you can shop through the site directly, I would be so appreciative if you use the link here to shop! Plus, if you shop through this link and spend $50 or more, I have a giveaway going on for a free color intense lipstick!

Let me quickly run through my Top Ten favorites (in no particular order!)

  1. Countercontrol Clear Pore Cleanser: I’ve had acne-prone skin my entire life, and I’ve always frankly been horribly embarrassed by my skin. I’ve been to countless dermatologists, used too many prescription creams to count, and nothing helped….UNTIL this! This cleanser contains jojoba beads, so not only does it remove my makeup, but my skin feels SO smooth! I have had the least breakouts I’ve ever had in my life, and the only difference I can attribute it to is this cleanser!

  2. Nourishing Cream Cleanser: While I typically use countercontrol cleanser (above) at night, I use this nourishing cream cleanser in the mornings. Y’all…..the only way I can describe it is SOFT! The cleanser itself is so gentle, yet leaves my skin feeling refreshed, clean, and supple!

  3. Instant Eye Makeup Remover: For any stubborn leftover eye makeup, this is my go-to! I only need a little teeny tiny drop, and it removes my eye makeup so easily! I replaced my old face wipes (which were full of yucky ingredients and artificial fragrance) for this product and I’ll never go back!

  4. Cleansing Balm: First, let me just say….I saw people raving about this, and I was stubborn and refused to try it because of the price. However, when Beautycounter released the travel size (a smaller amount for a great, accessible price) I added it to my cart and have used it every day since. While it can be used as a makeup remover, I use it nightly as a moisturizing overnight mask. You literally used a pea-sized amount to coat your skin. I combine this with four drops of the #1 Brightening Oil, and I’m not kidding y’all….wake up with glowing skin. Packed with Vitamin C to brigten skin, and raspberry and cranberry seed oils to hydrate…this will quickly become your favorite beauty product!

  5. Overnight Resurfacing Peel: As I started to get into my mid-20s, I began noticing little fine lines begin to pop up on my forehead. Naturally, I panicked…where did those come from overnight?!?! Enter….overnight resurfacing peel!!! My fine lines are almost invisible now, and the stubborn acne scars I’ve had on my cheek since middle school have diminished (which is probably what I’ve been most excited about!!!!) This has quickly become a top-seller, and I know why!

  6. #1 Brightening + Vitamin C Facial Oil: I mix 4 drops of this with a pea sized amount of cleansing balm and wake up to brightened and revitalized skin. I seriously feel like my skin has a glow to it that I’ve never had before. While using oils on an already oily face seems counterintuitive, adding oil actually balances my skin that is overproducing oil from too many conventional products that have stripped the healthy oil from my skin.

  7. Balancing Charcoal Facial Mask: I use this product one to two times a week (usually on Sunday nights!) to absorb excess oil and minimize my pores. The charcoal purifies and detoxifies my complexion. I also use this as a quick overnight spot treatment on any stubborn blemishes that pop up :) As the charcoal dries, you can literally see it pulling the oil from your pores (which is both fascinating and disgusting….but at least you really know it works!!!)

  8. Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation: I switched over to this foundation and have been so pleased. It’s a buildable coverage, so I can build it to slightly thicker on areas where I want covered more (like the remaining acne scars I have on my cheek) but lighter coverage on other areas (like my forehead, etc…). Long lasting, but I don’t have a “cake face” like some previous foundations made me feel. The bottle lasts forever, too! I just had to replace mine after 5 months!

  9. Powder Blush in “Guava”: I used to wear Bobbi Brown’s powder blush, but switched over once I ran out of that one. This color is a near dupe for Bobbi Brown’s “Pale Pink” color I used previously, but I feel this one lasts significantly longer (it’s super pigmented, so you only need a little) and, Beautycounter tests for heavy metals, so you know your product won’t be contaminated with potentially toxic ingredients.

  10. Lip Sheer in “Currant”: Lipstick is the first product I switched to safer (hello, you’re basically physically eating it by the end of the day!) and I don’t know if I’ll ever love a lipstick quite as much! These lip sheers have a hint of vanilla so they smell wonderful, are super moisturizing, and provide such a beautiful coverage. Even better, Beautycounter tests for heavy metals in each batch of product, so you’ll know these don’t contain any harmful chemicals OR lead (which is unfortunately found in a majority of conventional lipsticks…yuck!!!)

Do y’all have any questions about which products you should switch to safer? There is so much information out there, especially as “green beauty” is becoming more popular. (This is a great article to look at regarding facts v. myths regarding safer beauty!)

Anything I can do to help in your switch to safer, I would LOVE to help!!!!

Why I Switched to Safer

When I was in high school, I remember talking with a good family friend about all the (not so great) ingredients that are found in our foods today. Preservatives, dyes, you name it…things that I certainly didn’t want to knowingly be putting in my body. I began then looking for more organic ingredients to substitute in my diet, more whole foods to replace packaged snacks, you get the picture! However, I never even thought about the things I was putting on my skin.

Flash forward to college, and I slowly began learning more about the cosmetic industry. While my mom is an amazing hostess, a girly-girl she is not, so I really didn’t learn how to wear makeup products until college. Once I started learning more about makeup, I was hooked. It was like a whole new form of art for me. However, I also started learning about some not-so-great harmful chemicals hidden in my makeup routine. During those years, a good friend introduced me to Beautycounter. That’s when I learned about some staggering statistics about the current beauty industry in the United States.

Did you know the last time a law regulating the cosmetics industry was passed was in 1938?

That specific statistic knocked me off my feet! To comprehend this better, that means since my own grandparents were born, there have been no regulations regarding cosmetics in regards to our personal safety. Do you know how many ingredients have been added/created/introduced since? 80,000. That means 80,000 ingredients could have been added to personal care products (makeup, hair care, deodorant, etc…) with no regard to the short and long-term effects on health.

The United States has only banned 30 harmful ingredients, while the European Union has banned over 1,400. Canada, likewise, has banned over 600 ingredients with known harmful effects.

I think we all sadly know someone in our lives who has been touched by cancer. I sadly lost my Grandaddy to a rare form of cancer, which we now think was contributed to from environmental toxins. But, did you know that the rate of cancer has risen from 1 in 20, to now 1 in 8. I’m especially thankful that my future is in God’s hands through the good and the bad, and I’ll never know the health I may have in the future (including cancer.) BUT, if I can avoid ingredients and products that are known carcinogens (especially through a relatively easy thing like switching makeup products!) I want to do it.

How do I know that Beautycounter contains safe ingredients?

Great question! Beautycounter bans over 1,500 harmful or potentially harmful ingredients from our products and is tested by a 3rd party to ensure this safety. See below for a short peek at our “never list.” You can read more about each ingredient here.

So why did I decide to become a Beautycounter consultant?

Simply put, I believe everyone deserves the right to have access to both safer personal care products and the knowledge of what ingredients you are putting on your body.

I’m sure you feel the same way, but I love my family and friends fiercely. I want to do everything in my power to ensure that they’re in the best health.

And, let’s be honest…I love makeup. It’s a form of art to me! What I love even more? Knowing that the products I use with Beautycounter don’t contain any known harmful ingredients. Knowing that having a family is hopefully in our future soon, I want to do my best in keeping any known toxic ingredients out of my body.

In the wise words of Maya Angelou, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”

What Beautycounter products should I start with?

I’m so excited that you’re interested in safer beauty!

I plan on writing a more detailed post about my favorite products later, but for now, my favorite things are the lipstick (stays on all day!), makeup remover, mattifying powder, and blush.

As I continue to run out of my existing products, I plan to switch more products to Beautycounter. First on my list to try is the eye palette, lip conditioner, and brightening facial oil.

I’m intruigued! How do I shop it?

Beautycounter products are available through their online retail directly, strategic partnerships (you may have seen their collaboration last year with Target!), and also through consultants (like me!)

To be completely transparent, I never thought I’d fall into the category of a beauty consultant. But, Beautycounter is different in that our main goal for our company is education. Nope, not sales. Our mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone. Along the way of education, you’ll also get the chance to shop some amazing safe and effective beauty products.

If you’d like to shop our products, you can do so at directly at Beautycounter’s website. However, I’d love for you to shop with me as a consultant through my site here. You’ll be getting the same product, at the same price, and I’ll be making a very small commission off your order (which I would be very appreciative and thankful for!)

Also, I’d like to note that you don’t need to completely overhaul your beauty cabinet at one time. When I made the switch to using safer products, I would make the switch as I ran out of an older product I was using. For example, when I ran out of my old makeup remover wipes, I switched to using Beautycounter’s makeup remover. This method is a cost effective way to get safer beauty into your arsenal! There are still products I’m waiting to switch over until I finish up what I’m currently using. But, I feel so much safer knowing that I’m working my way towards switching my products to safer!

I’m not ready to switch to Beautycounter products. What else can I do to make sure I have safer beauty?

One thing I love about Beautycounter is our main mission is education. I’ve learned so much about personal care products along the way. Here are a few tips you can use (besides adding in safer products!)

  • Read the ingredients on your current products. Even better, check your current products with the EWG (Environmental Working Group) Healthy Living app. EWG is a non-profit organization that researches and ranks different products according to their toxicity levels. Learn more about the app here.

  • Avoid fragrance. Fragrance is considered a trade secret, so manufacturers don’t have to disclose what is within said ‘fragrance.’ Yep, that means your ‘fragrance’ could include hundreds of harmful chemicals like known carcinogens and hormone disruptions.

  • Take your shoes off in the house. Shoes often bring in traces of pesticides and yucky outside materials. Keep your home a safe spot!

With all that being said, I would just love for you to take a peek at Beautycounter! If you’re ready to get shopping, you can purchase products directly through my link here: Even if you’re not quite sure of Beautycounter, I urge you to check your products with the EWG app.

For me, this is bigger than a makeup product. You should know what’s in your products, and know the health impacts of those ingredients. Moreover, you shouldn’t have to worry about carcinogens, hormone disruptors, and more lurking in your products. If this is one step towards potentially decreasing those toxic chemicals for myself and family and loved ones, I’m going to do it. I’d love for you to join me in the process.

If you have any questions about your current products, or how Beautcounter works, or any of our products, please reach out! This is an ongoing learning process for me, as well, but I’d love to share with you anything I’ve currently learned!

I’m looking forward to tackling safer beauty together!
