Safer, but effective, beauty
A few years ago, I began paying closer attention to the food I was eating, but more specifically, the ingredients. When I made the switch to try a more organic diet, I quickly discovered the need to also do so in my beauty routine, as well. I’m not perfect (far from it, in fact!) but I try my best to incorporate products in my self care routine with minimal harmful chemicals. Scared to switch to safer beauty? Try making the switch one product at a time.

Fun fact, I rarely (if ever!) go out of the house without lipstick. Finding a more natural lipstick was one of the first items to switch for me (I mean, you do end up essentially eating it!) This lipstick is my go-to, and I think I’ll be forever loyal! It goes on so smoothly, doesn’t make your lips feel chapped, and stays on all day. A win-win in my book! A great place to start for switching to safer beauty!
This is my absolute favorite foundation. It’s full coverage without being too cakey, and still looks natural. I have a few acne scars from middle school years, and this covers them beautifully. Highly recommend! I always put it on with the matching brush (found here) which I do think makes a difference. Having experimented with loads of different foundations, I always find myself going back to this one.
When I ran out of my former beloved Bobbi Brown “Peony” blush, I decided to try Beautycounter’s safer version. I have to say, I am a total convert now! This blush is just as pigmented as my previous one, holds all day, and doesn’t contain any known harmful ingredients. Consider me sold!
Because I am religious about covering up in sunscreen (and you should be, too!) my face tends to be very pale. I love Beautycounter’s bronzer to give my face a bit of color! It’s very pigmented, so just a dab will do. Plus, since you only need a little, the product will last a while before replenishing!
This is a great, light weight concealer for brightening your under eyes as well as covering blemishes. It doesn’t settle easily in creases, either. I always set this with Beautycounter’s Mattifying Powder.
Let’s be honest….living in a coastal, Southern town, the air is HOT and HUMID, usually leading to a sticky face. I love to layer this product on top of my foundation to help “set” it in place. Bye, bye shiny, sticky skin!
I love makeup. What I don’t love? When I remove my makeup at the end of the night and I still find leftovers the next morning. This removes makeup in a flash and ACTUALLY works. I’ve tried endless amounts of “natural” makeup removers, and this is always the winner.
My freshman year of college, my very best friend taught me how to line my upper eye lids with liquid eyeliner and I’ve never gone back! This eyeliner makes your upper lashes look more thick and full. A thin line is all you need! I’m excited to find a safer brand I love that’s just as effective as the one I used before!
I layer this and the next mascara together and love them! They’re only rated a 2 and 3 on the EWG app, so I still feel decently comfortable using these until I can find a replacement I love. These are better than any designer brands I’ve tried, and are such a great price! Cannot recommend these two enough.
See my comments on the left for how much I love this mascara layered with the blue one! Pick these up on your next Target run ASAP! (P.S…don’t get the waterproof ones, you’ll be finding it on your face for days to come! Plus, I don’t think it goes on as smoothly!)
I refer to this as liquid gold….no lie! Combine this with the Wet Brush I mentioned above, and you’ll say goodbye to tangles forever! While it is expensive, a little goes a long way….one bottle probably lasts me about 6 months.
I love using this dry shampoo the day after I wash my hair (I try to wash it every other day), or when I just need a little bit of volume. I love that there isn’t a strong fragrance, nor do I feel like it leaves a bad white residue. The only downfall is the steep price, so I do try to use this sparingly (but, I will say that it’s the best I’ve tried!)
Having very fine hair, I find that my hair tangles really easily. In college, I discovered this brush and my life (seriously!) has been changed ever since. Say goodbye to tangled hair! (You can buy these online, but I often find them at HomeGoods/Marshalls/TJ Maxx. BUT, make sure you buy the name brand “Wet Brush”. The knock offs just don’t work half as well, trust me!
